We have all been waiting for this moment: CD Projekt Red has released the first trailer for The Witcher 4, which has just premiered on YouTube!
What do we see in the trailer?
The trailer features Ciri. It is a pre-rendered cinematic, most likely based on Unreal Engine 5. This does not mean the final game will look exactly like this. Remember the differences in character appearance and atmosphere between the first cinematics and The Witcher 3. According to the description, the trailer was created in collaboration with the legendary Platige Image studio.
Unreal Engine 5
As previously reported, The Witcher 4 is being developed on Unreal Engine 5. We are preparing a series of articles on rendering engines, including Unreal, which we use from time to time.
Do we know the protagonist?
The plot remains a secret, but Ciri appears in the trailer, strongly suggesting that she will be the character we control in the new Witcher.
When is the release?
The Witcher 4's release date has not yet been announced.
UPDATE 18.12.2024
Several new details have emerged since the trailer was published, mostly during an interview with Sebastian Kalemba, which you can watch here.
A cinematic created in the game engine
It has been confirmed that the trailer was created entirely in the game engine, giving us an insight into the graphics and atmosphere we can expect.
When the story takes place
The Witcher 4 begins three years after the events of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt", specifically after the Blood and Wine expansion. Players begin at the home Geralt received from Duchess Henrietta.
The trailer's story
The trailer shows part of a side quest that will appear in the game. As in The Witcher 3, there will be multiple choices, so events may unfold differently from the trailer.
A new monster: Bauk
The monster in the trailer is called Bauk and comes from Serbian folklore.
Ciri's new weapon
Ciri uses a chain in the trailer that will serve as both a tool and weapon in the game.
Ciri: the first female witcher
Ciri underwent the Trial of the Grasses, becoming the first woman in history to survive it. She is also the first witcher to have consciously chosen this profession. Everything suggests players will see the full process of becoming a witcher.
